The traditional international freestyle wrestling tournament - the Ivan Yarygin Cup starts today in Krasnoyarsk with the participation of Turkmen athletes. It will be held for the 35th time.
Before the competition began, this prestigious tournament set a record. This year, freestyle wrestlers from 24 countries took part, according to the organizers of the Ivan Yarygin Cup.
In addition to Turkmen athletes, representatives of Azerbaijan, Albania, Argentina, Armenia, Belarus, Venezuela, Georgia, Iran, India, Kazakhstan, China, Cuba, the Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Mongolia, Russia, Romania, Syria, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan are participating in the competitions, Republic of Korea, Ecuador. It is noteworthy that wrestlers from Argentina, Venezuela, Syria and Ecuador are taking part in a wrestling tournament in Siberia for the first time.
Participants in the Ivan Yarygin Cup will compete for 20 sets of awards among men and women.
For Turkmen freestyle wrestlers who have not yet received a license for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, this tournament is a good opportunity to properly prepare for the qualifying competitions.
As part of the Turkmenistan national team, Alp Arslan Begenjov (weight category up to 71 kg), Dovletmyrat Orazgylyjov (up to 86 kg) and Ziyamuhammet Saparov (up to 125 kg) will compete for the Ivan Yarygin Cup. Previously, they completed a ten-day training camp in Dagestan.
Ivan Yarygin (1948–1997) – freestyle wrestler, three-time European champion, world champion, two-time Olympic champion. The tournament named after Ivan Yarygin was established in 1990. The first competitions took place in Abakan. Since 1991, the tournament venue has been Krasnoyarsk.
