Turkmen sambo wrestlers won 15 medals - 4 gold, 3 silver and 8 bronze - at the XXVIII International Tournament for the Prizes of the President of the Republic of Belarus held in Minsk.
About 200 athletes from ten countries - Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Germany, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Russia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan - participated in the competition. Over the course of two days, athletes competed for 21 sets of medals – seven medals each in men's and women's sports sambo, as well as men's combat sambo.
The Turkmenistan team was awarded the highest honors in combat sambo by the athlete of the National Federation of Martial Arts Agasapar Mukhadov (weight category up to 88 kg), the employee of the Ashgabat City Prosecutor's Office Suvkhan Ovezgeldiev (up to 98 kg), the student of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports Maksat Annagylyjov (up to 79 kg), and the coach of the 3rd sports school of Koytendag etrap, Lebap velayat, Muminjan Arzikulov (up to 71 kg).
Silver medal winners were: in the combat sambo tournament - athlete of the National Federation of Martial Arts of Turkmenistan Rustem Penjiev (up to 79 kg) and student of the Institute of Telecommunications and Informatics Bezirgen Begenjov (up to 98 kg), and in the sports sambo competition - coach of the 2nd sports school of Dyanev etrap of Lebap velayat Aziza Nazarova (up to 50 kg).
Bronze success in sports sambo competitions was achieved by Byagul Nuryeva (up to 50 kg), coach of the 1st sports school of Lebap velayat, Saodat Ishmuradova (up to 80 kg), coach of the 7th sports school of Turkmenabat, Lebap velayat, Babamyrat Bayramov (up to 58 kg), student of the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction, Niyazmyrat Babekov (up to 64 kg), soldier of the military unit 1001 named after Myalikguly Berdimuhamedov of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and Dovlet Islamov (over 98 kg), student of the Turkmen State Institute of Finance.
And in the combat sambo tournament, the third-place winners were Akhmet Tanriberdiev (up to 58 kg), employee of the Ministry of National Security of Turkmenistan, Kambar Umarov (up to 71 kg), coach of the 4th sports school of Charjev etrap, Lebap velayat, and Artur Yanbayev (up to 79 kg), employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The Turkmenistan team took 3rd place in the team standings, conceding to the first two places to the sambo wrestlers of Belarus (8 gold, 9 silver and 16 bronze medals) and the Russian Federation (6 gold, 4 silver and 10 bronze awards).
