The transport and communications complex increases its contribution to the country's GDP

The development indicators of the transport and communications complex of Turkmenistan in the first quarter of this year confirm that this is one of the most dynamically developing sectors, in which the growth rate of work and provision of services reached 118 percent.

According to the report presented at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on the 6th of April, this figure in the field of cargo transportation by road, rail, air, sea and river transport was 105.4 percent, and passenger transportation - 101.7 percent.

The growth rate of service provision for January-March for the «Türkmendemirýollary» agency is 104.2 percent, for the «Türkmenawtoulaglary» agency - 110.2 percent, for the «Türkmenhowaýollary» agency - 164.7 percent, for the «Türkmendeňizderýaýollary» agency - 121.4 percent, agency «Türkmenaragatnaşyk» - 111 percent.

It was also reported that production and social facilities subordinate to the transport and communications complex are being built in all corners of the country, which creates the basis for its further growth.

With the overall stable growth of the country’s GDP amounting to 6.3 percent in the first quarter, this figure in the transport and communications sector is 6.6 percent. The instructions given by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov are aimed at further rapid development of passenger and cargo turnover on all types of transport and continuation of effective activities to realize the international transport and transit potential of the country.

Today, Turkmenistan is actively strengthening the material and technical base of all transport sectors, building new roads, air harbors, laying steel highways, and creating logistics centers. As experts note, the logistics strategy of Turkmenistan determines a qualitatively new development of the entire complex of transport and communications industries, their close interaction and coordination of cargo flows, supported by growing digitalization. And the demand for the country’s modern transport and logistics services on the world market turns it into a transcontinental bridge and an important link in international transport corridors.

New initiatives and proposals in this area were discussed during the official visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Tajikistan last week. They discussed, in particular, the formation of a transport route in the direction of Tajikistan–Uzbekistan–Turkmenistan–Iran–Türkiye, as well as the possibility of organizing a multimodal transport corridor from China to Turkmenistan through the territories of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, with access to the ports of the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf.
