Young chemists of Turkmenistan, led by their permanent mentor, Nazar Mammedov, a chemistry teacher at the Ashgabat specialized boarding school named after Saparmyrat Turkmenbashy, achieved success at the prestigious 58th International Mendeleyev Olympiad of Schoolchildren in chemistry, held from the 21st to 26th of April in Shenzhen (China) on the basis of the Russian-Chinese University of Moscow State University-SPI.
Each member of the Turkmen team, consisting of four schoolchildren, won a prize, confirming the effectiveness of their country's educational system. Students of the 11th grade of the Ashgabat specialized boarding school Shatlyk Batyrov, Aygul Atajanova, Jeren Akmyradova and a student of the 10th grade of the same school Rustem Jumayev won bronze medals at the Olympiad.
The significance of this achievement is underlined by the fact that 151 schoolchildren from 26 countries took part in the competitions of young chemists this year. And the tasks for the participants of the Olympiad are traditionally more difficult than those given at the World Chemistry Olympiad. They require not only theoretical training, but also teamwork skills, as well as a creative approach.
The Olympiad consists of three rounds: two theoretical and one practical, in which Turkmen schoolchildren showed both their deep knowledge and practical skills.
The International Mendeleyev Olympiad of Schoolchildren in Chemistry 2024 was held for the first time outside the CIS and was held under the sign of the 190th anniversary of the birth of Dmitriy Mendeleyev and the upcoming 75th anniversary of the formation of the People's Republic of China this year.
