On the 30th of May, a scientific and practical conference «Development of biological sciences and biotechnologies in the country» was held at the Technology Centre of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, at which the tasks of scientists in implementing the State Program for the Comprehensive Development of Biotechnology in Turkmenistan for 2024-2028 and the Action Plan for its implementation were discussed.
The event was attended by leading scientists and specialists from research institutions and representatives of higher educational institutions. After the opening remarks by the director of the Technocentre, Doctor of Chemical Sciences Durdymyrat Gadamov, speakers gave speeches on such topics as «Scientific results of studying the biological diversity of the fauna of Turkmenistan and future challenges», «Current state of Kopetdag endemic orchids and the possibility of their propagation using biotechnology methods», «The importance of bionanotechnologies in country», «The role of biopharmaceuticals in biotechnology», «Scientific justification for the use of the biotechnological method in the study of biological resources of the flora of the Karayalchi grove» and others.
Altyn Rahmanova, head of the biotechnology laboratory at the AST Technology Centre, dedicated her speech to the strategic directions in the State Program for the Integrated Development of Biotechnology in Turkmenistan for 2024-2028. As it was emphasized, the recently approved document is aimed at increasing the scientific component in the development of bioindustry and bioenergy, stimulating the innovative production of environmentally friendly products, and the formation of a new bioeconomy in the country. As for the activities of the Biotechnology Laboratory of the Technocentre, all conditions have been created for training specialists in the field of biotechnology and conducting modern scientific research in many areas in this area. There is also great potential for creating innovative bioinventions and promoting the developments of Turkmen scientists in the field of biotechnology on the world market.
The conference participants expressed the general opinion that Turkmenistan has all the necessary capabilities, including rich raw materials, a modern research base and highly qualified specialists, to become one of the countries actively developing biotechnology. This makes it possible to effectively solve the tasks set in the State Program to accelerate the development of innovative technologies for the production of environmentally friendly energy-saving goods, oriented towards import substitution and export, based on biology and biotechnology, as well as the scientific substantiation of the formation of a powerful bio-industry in the country using biotechnology. The creation of a competitive bioindustry sector, along with nanoindustry and information technologies, will contribute to the modernization of the national economy and its transition to a qualitatively new level.
