Today, the museum hosted a grand opening of an exhibition, the main purpose of which is to show visitors the traditions of properly decorating a wedding cortege.

This kind of exhibition is organized in the museum for the first time. Based on the study of national traditions of decorating the wedding cortege, it showcases all the attributes of camel’s appearance. The exhibition uses exhibits stored in the collections of the State Museum.

Since ancient times, Turkmens have preserved the unique tradition of decorating the wedding caravan - gelinalyjy.

Especially for this exhibition, the restoration department created a camel mannequin with a palanquin, decorated with carpet and fabric products according to ancient traditions. The showcases and stands display festive camel decorations.

In Turkmenistan, the one-humped camel was domesticated as early as the 3rd-2nd millennium BC. This is evidenced by artifacts found at Gonur Depe. And the discovery of 2.5 million-year-old petrified camel tracks in the Western Kopetdag confirms the origin of the one-humped arvan camel in Turkmenistan. The exhibition also features a reconstruction of ancient camel tracks.

In the modern world, ancient rites and traditions of peoples are gradually being lost. Outdated customs are replaced by new ones in the process of historical development. At the exhibition, one can fully experience the atmosphere of a traditional Turkmen wedding and see authentic exhibits from the past. The exhibition is dedicated to the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the great Turkmen poet Magtymguly Fragi.
