In Dashoguz velayat, barley production continues to hold its position in the list of cultivated plants. As in previous years, over a thousand hectares of land have been allocated for this crop in the velayat.
More than other places, barley will be sown in the territories of S. Turkmenbashy etraps (375 hectares) and in the Koneurgench etrap (250 hectares), whose farmers have extensive experience in cultivating this crop. Barley will also be planted on two hundred hectares in the Akdepe etrap.
In these etraps, barley is grown as a forage crop and, due to its nutritional value, is of great importance for increasing the productivity of livestock and poultry. Winter barley is a drought-resistant and salt-resistant crop, which is important for the climatic conditions of the region.
The crop can also be used to develop new soils, as it is considered one of the most stable crops in agricultural production. Local farmers grow several domestic and foreign varieties of barley.
As practice shows, to obtain a good harvest, it is important to have high-yielding and disease-resistant varieties, as well as timely implementation of all agrotechnical measures for barley cultivation in accordance with scientifically established rules.
