Turkmen schoolchildren win four medals at the International Chemistry Olympiad in Riyadh

Four students from the specialized boarding school named after Saparmyrat Turkmenbashy in Ashgabat successfully performed at the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad, which was held from the 21st to 30th of July in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). Each member of the Turkmen team was able to win an award at the largest chemistry competition among schoolchildren, adding two silver and two bronze medals to the collection of awards for young chemists in the country.

Silver medals of the Olympiad were awarded to 11th-grade student Aygul Atajanova and 10th-grader Rustem Jumayev, and bronze medals were awarded to 11th-grade student Jeren Akmyradova and 10th-grade student Diyar Dovletov, who took part in such a prestigious international competition for the first time. On their trip to Saudi Arabia, the young Turkmen chemists were accompanied by their mentors – teachers of the Turkmen State University named after Magtymguly Nurjahan Malikgulyyeva (Department of Physical Chemistry) and Yagmyr Tulekov (Department of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry).

The International Chemistry Olympiad in Riyadh was held in two rounds, during which schoolchildren had to complete rather complex practical and theoretical tasks. Based on the totality of the results achieved, the participants were awarded medals of various denominations.

This year, 333 schoolchildren from 90 countries took part in the International Chemistry Olympiad for Schoolchildren, and 35 gold, 70 silver and 110 bronze medals were awarded.
