Discussion on the Formation of National Crafts held in Ashgabat

The conference "Issues of the Formation of National Crafts and World Practice" was held at the Museum of Fine Arts of Turkmenistan. The event aimed to highlight traditional folk crafts, create conditions for the development and preservation of decorative applied art in modern society.

Opening the conference, Ismail Orazov, director of the Museum of Fine Arts, congratulated the participants on the start of the exhibition of decorative applied art items, which was set up in one of the halls. The items presented in the exhibition demonstrate the continuity of generations of unique folk creativity and the desire of contemporary artisans to study and enrich national culture.

State policy plays a key role in preserving and widely popularizing the cultural and spiritual heritage of our people worldwide. Today, Turkmenistan attaches special importance to the vivid presentation of its historical and cultural heritage, craft traditions, decorative and applied arts.

In recent years, unique monuments located in our country and various types of artistic creativity of the Turkmen people have been included in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. These include traditional Turkmen carpet making art, Turkmen-style needlework art, sericulture and dutar making craftsmanship.

Among Turkmenistan's initiatives for inclusion in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity are nominations such as "The Art of Turkmen Felt-Making," "Turkmen Blacksmith Craft," and others.

During her speech, Jamila Kurbanova, head of the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan, introduced the conference participants to the recently published book "Turkmen Felt," dedicated to the traditions of making national felt carpets.

The event continued with presentations by artisans on the importance of preserving and passing on national culture through their craft activities to the younger generation.

The next conference with the participation of decorative applied art masters is scheduled for this fall. The community plans to create a Craft Center in Turkmenistan.
