As part of the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the classical poet and thinker Magtymguly Fragi, a large creative team of Turkmen and Uzbek filmmakers is working together to create a full-length feature film dedicated to his life and creative journey.
Forty minutes of the film, depicting the poet's youth and his family, have already been shot. Other episodes, filmed in Turkmenistan, took place in the picturesque areas of Ak Bugday etrap in Ahal velayat and in the Gurykhovdan area. Currently, sets are being created, and filming continues in Uzbekistan—in Bukhara and Khiva—where events related to Magtymguly's studies at the Kukeldash and Shirgazi madrasahs, his acquaintance with spiritual mentors, and the development of his poetic talent and worldview will be recreated.
The film's director is the well-known Uzbek filmmaker Muzaffarkhan Erkinov. The screenplay is co-authored by Ore Dashgynov and Rakhymberdi Annagulyev from "Turkmenfilm," along with two other Uzbek authors. The role of Magtymguly is played by young actor Akhmet Amandurdyev from the National Music and Drama Theater of Turkmenistan named after Magtymguly, who has experience portraying the great poet and thinker in the play "Magtymguly in Love." The role of his father, Dovletmammet Azadi, is performed by People's Artist of Turkmenistan Chary Berdiev, an actor from the Main Drama Theater named after Saparmyrat Turkmenbashi. The film also features other well-known Turkmen and Uzbek actors.
The creators of the film plan to complete the project in the near future and present the new movie at the international "Korkut Ata" film festival, which is scheduled to be held in Turkmenistan in early November this year.
