Turkmenistan curling team to attend training camp in Norway

International curling training camps will bring together teams from 14 countries, including Turkmenistan, Sweden, Spain, Kazakhstan and others, in Norway from August 17 to 23.

As part of the Lillehammer Youth Camp, the Turkmenistan junior team will hone their ice-playing skills by participating in training sessions, master classes and competitions with other teams. In addition to the young athletes, coaches will also receive training at the camp.

The coaches will undergo professional development training and exchange experiences with colleagues to further develop this winter Olympic sport.

"The Turkmenistan Curling Federation was established in 2020," says the head coach of the national team, Sakina Gulamaliyeva. "Currently, our country is a full member of the World Curling. This allows us to learn from international masters, improve coaching qualifications in this sport, and prepare professional athletes who can play as a team in the future."

The junior team heading to the training camp includes athletes who performed successfully at the 2023 open championship of the Turkmenistan Curling Federation. The team captain is Emina Nurmukhammedova, with Aisha Geldimyradova as vice-captain. The first player is Danatar Mukhamov, and the second player is Selim Bayramov.

Friendly matches between the teams are planned based on the results of the training practices at the camp.

Lillehammer is known as one of the centers of winter sports. It hosted the XVII Winter Olympic Games in 1994 and the second Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2016. Continuing the proud Olympic traditions, the organizers of the International Training Camp aim to share Norwegian expertise in winter sports and support young athletes and coaches from around the world.
