Turkmen athletes will compete for all prize positions in the girls' singles category at the ongoing international tennis tournament "Ashgabat Open 2024" for players under 14, held in the Turkmen capital.

This was determined after the latest day of play, with the following players advancing to the quarterfinals: top five seeds Ilima Guseynova, Aylara Kakabaeva, Aynur Annamyradova, Nazli Khudaikuliyeva, Sulgun Ishankuliyeva, as well as Safiya Tribunskaya, Jennet Orazaliyeva and Anna Ponyatova.

In the women's doubles category, as expected, the top-seeded four pairs advanced to the semifinals. Ilima Guseynova and Aylara Kakabaeva will play against Aynur Agamyradova and Jennet Orazaliyeva in the first match for a place in the final. In the second match, Sulgun Ishankuliyeva paired with Uzbek athlete Safiya Sharipova will face Turkmen tennis players Aynur Annamyradova and Nazli Khudaikuliyeva.

In contrast, in the boys' competition, Turkmen tennis players face serious competition from quarterfinalists Muhammad Usmani from Pakistan, Mohammed Al Ali from the United Arab Emirates, as well as Gareth Lim Hao Zhe and Jacob Wong from Malaysia. As the finals approach, the competition on the courts becomes more intense.

This was evident in a match for a place in the quarterfinals between Turkmen athlete Eyupbeg Atajanov and Mohammed Al Ali from the UAE, which became record-breaking in its duration. They battled for about three hours on the central court of the Tennis Complex in the Olympic Village. During the first set, Eyupbeg led 4-2 but allowed his opponent to win back two games. Nevertheless, he won the first set 6-4. After expending significant energy, E. Atajanov lost the second set 3-6 and then the decisive third set 2-6.

Kerimgeldi Velibekov also fiercely contested against Muhammad Usmani from Pakistan. Their match lasted about two hours. In the first set, with a score of 5-4 in favor of Usmani, they played a game for about 15 minutes. Velibekov had two chances to break through but Usmani held on to win both sets 6-4 and 6-3.

Among Turkmen tennis players, the first seeds Emirhan Rustamov, Suleyman Khudaiberdyev, Yunus Annamyradov and Ali Geldiyev advanced to the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, semifinalists were determined in the boys' doubles category. In the first match for a place in the final, Turkmen tennis players Nazar Amangeldiyev and Kerimgeldi Velibekov will play against fourth-seeded Yaroslav Bobrov (Kazakhstan) and Mukhammetsapa Serdarov (Turkmenistan). In another Turkmen-Malaysian semifinal, second-seeded Yunus Annamyradov/Ali Geldiyev will compete against Gareth Lim Hao Zhe/Jacob Wong for a spot in the final.
