30-year-old candidate master Shahrukh Turayev from Dashoguz emerged as the winner of the open chess tournament, which was held in Hazar with the participation of 32 players, including children and women. It was organized by the company "Dragon Oil" (UAE) with the assistance of the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan.
Shahrukh Turayev scored 7 points out of 7 possible. Schoolchildren Davut Meredov from Ashgabat and Serdar Kabehanov from Mary, who took 2nd and 3rd places respectively, were 1.5 points behind the winner. The prize winners, young participants and women were awarded valuable gifts from "Dragon Oil".
Shahrukh Turayev is professionally involved in chess and is also the head coach of the Turkmenistan women's national team. At the end of the tournament, he held a simultaneous game session with five opponents, in which he won four games and drew one.
The chief arbiter of the tournament was Gurbanberdi Amangeldiyev, the director of the first professional chess academy in Turkmenistan, "Kuşt Älemi," who, incidentally, is himself a graduate of the Balkan chess school.
It is expected that the tournament in Hazar will become a tradition. Furthermore, "Dragon Oil" company, the "Kuşt Älemi" academy and the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan plan to open the first children's chess club in this coastal city in the near future.
