Universities of Turkmenistan and U.S expand cooperation

On October 2, during a working visit to the United States by a delegation from Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Education, led by Deputy Minister A. Atayev, a meeting took place in Kent, Ohio, with Kent State University President Todd Diacon.

One of the main outcomes of the meeting was the signing of Memorandums of Understanding between Kent State University and three universities of Turkmenistan: the International University for the Humanities and Development, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, and the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction. These agreements aim to expand academic programs, create joint educational and scientific initiatives, and strengthen cultural exchanges between the countries.

Among the key topics discussed was the opening of a branch of Kent State University in Turkmenistan, for which a roadmap was preliminarily prepared by the Turkmen side. The parties planned to work out all aspects of this initiative in detail during the current visit.

Special attention was focused on cultural events dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the birth of the great Eastern poet and philosopher Magtymguly Fragi, organized during the Turkmen delegation’s stay in the United States. Representatives from Turkmenistan expressed gratitude for the opportunity to hold these events, emphasizing their significance in strengthening cultural and educational ties between the countries.

The meeting was an important step in developing cooperation between universities of Turkmenistan and Kent State University, enhancing intercultural communication, and realizing one of Turkmenistan’s strategic goals: integrating Turkmen universities into the international educational space and establishing partnerships with leading universities of the world.
