Results of the competition “Turkmen embroidery is our national property"

The results of the competition were summed up at the Center for Public Organizations in Ashgabat “Turkmen embroidery is our national treasure”, organized by Central Council of the Women's Union of Turkmenistan, National Trade Union Center, Secretariat of the National Group of Turkmenistan for UNESCO Affairs and the State Committee of Turkmenistan for television, radio broadcasting and cinematography.

The best needlewomen from all velayats of the country competed in skillful mastery of thread and needle, as well as knowledge of traditional ornaments and patterns.

The competition consisted of three main stages. At the first stage, participants shared their contribution to the development of the art of national embroidery. Then the contestants demonstrated the process of creating selected products. The final stage included a creative presentation of finished works, accompanied by performances by craftswomen who glorified the ancient art in poetry and fascinating legends.

One could not only watch the competition of needlewomen, but also actively participate in choosing favorites, as the winners of the competition were determined via SMS voting.

The largest number of SMS votes was received by embroiderers from Mari velayat, who became the winners of the competition. On second position, with a small difference in points, were placed representatives of Dashoguz velayat, and closed the top three needlewomen of Lebap velayat. The winners were awarded valuable gifts and certificates.

The art of Turkmen embroidery included in the representative list UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, reflects rich culture and traditions of the Turkmen people. Secrets of mastery in this type of decorative and applied art is preserved and transmitted from generation to generation.

Many needlewomen begin to master embroidery from childhood, thereby ensuring its continuity. To support talented craftswomen, exhibitions and competitions are held on a regular basis, where they can demonstrate their skills.
