In the Dashoguz velayat potato yields are increasing

Determination of optimal timing of spring planting of potatoes in soil and climatic conditions of the Dashoguz velayat became the topic of scientific work of the teacher of the Department of Plant Growing of the Turkmen Agricultural Institute Meretjan Arazov.

The relevance of this work is significant given that the timing of planting potatoes is one of the main factors in obtaining a high potato yield. According to the specialist, the specific soil and climatic conditions of the velayat require the selection of the most suitable varieties of crops for mass planting in terms of their biological and commercial values. At the same time, it is important to study and develop, on a scientific basis, the timing of planting and agricultural technology for cultivating each of them.

For the experiment, the specialist selected the most common potato varieties in the region as planting material: "Santa", "Dostum", "Gala". All of them are spring-ripening varieties and are distinguished by good taste, high yield, resistance to various diseases, suitability for long-term storage and transportation.

They were planted at different times and on land plots with different soil compositions. Thus, monitoring the vegetation of these potato varieties, along with optimal planting times, allowed to determine their requirements for cultivation technology, humidity, drought resistance, and adaptability to saline areas. The work will continue until 2026.

Farmers of the Dashoguz velayat, through the rational use of crop areas and water resources, are gradually increasing the volume of agricultural products produced and expanding their range. Thus, in a relatively short period of mass cultivation, the volume of potato production in the region has increased several times. This year alone, in the Dashoguz velayat 123 thousand 200 tons of the crop were harvested.

This has been achieved due to a comprehensive approach to its production, including the selection of the most suitable sowing areas and crop varieties for the natural and climatic conditions of the region. Similar scientific developments by domestic specialists are also intended to facilitate the further accumulation of sufficient experience in its mass cultivation, the development of effective technologies for growing and storing potatoes.
