The Turkmenistan Women's Chess Championship ended sensationally. It was won by 14-year-old schoolgirl from Lebap Jahan Rejepova, becoming the youngest champion of the country in the history of Turkmen chess.
The competition took place over 10 days at the Ashgabat Specialized Chess and Checkers School with the participation of 12 chess players who played among themselves in a single round.
Before the tournament, many experts preferred FIDE Master candidate Leyla Shohradova in the fight for the championship. However, young Jahan (FIDE rating – 1968) refuted all predictions. Having scored 9.5 points out of 11 possible, she was one point ahead of the second-placed 22-year-old student of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, candidate for Master of Sports Ogulsuray Bayrambaeva (rating – 1879) from Ashgabat and two points ahead of Leyla Shohradova (rating – 1986) from Lebap.
The victory in the adult championship of Turkmenistan allowed Jahan Rejepova to fulfill the criteria for obtaining the title of FIDE Master. The young champion of the country is a 9th-grader at the specialized secondary school No. 41 in the city of Turkmenabat, and plays chess at the local sports school No. 13 under the guidance of coach Zumrat Achilova.
Since the age of 13, Jahan has been a member of the women's national team of Turkmenistan. Last year, at the 45th World Olympiad in Budapest (Hungary), thanks to J. Rejepova's victory in the last round over FIDE master Patricia Vujnovic (rating - 2134) from Croatia, the Turkmen chess players won small gold medals in Group "C", showing the best result in the end - 32nd place among 169 teams in the overall standings.
Based on the results of the 2025 national championship, all prize winners, as well as Bagul Ezizova from Ashgabat, who took 4th place, received the right to participate in the upcoming international competitions as part of the women's team of Turkmenistan.
Among other results of the Turkmenistan Championship, it is worth noting the performance of the youngest participant, 10-year-old Aya Bayramova from Lebap, who showed a competitive fight and took 9th place out of 12 with 4 points.
