The Turkmen tennis players won a major victory over the Vietnamese team – 3:0 at the junior preliminary qualification tournament for the Billie Jean King Cup for players under 16 years old in the Asia/Oceania zone, which started today in Kuching, the capital of the Malaysian state of Sarawak on the island of Kalimantan.
The competition involves teams from 14 countries, which are divided into four groups at the first stage: «A» – Philippines (seeded 1st), Guam, Kuwait; «B» – Sri Lanka (seeded 2nd), Vietnam, Turkmenistan; «C» – Malaysia (seeded 4th), the Pacific team (seeded 5th), Maldives, Mongolia; «D» – Singapore (seeded 3rd), Lebanon (seeded 6th), Brunei, Bangladesh.
The two best teams in each group will advance to the playoffs.
The Turkmenistan team is represented at the tournament by: 9th grade student of Ashgabat Specialised Secondary School № 42 Ilima Huseynova, 10th grade student of Ashgabat Specialised Secondary School № 27 Aynur Movlyamova and 10th grade student of Mary Secondary School № 19 Jennet Charyyeva.
The fate of the opening match of the Turkmenistan team was decided in the singles, in the first match of which Jennet Charyyeva won against Vi Tram Quang - 6:1, 7:5, and in the second Ilima Huseynova beat Thi Yen Nhi Quang in three sets - 3:6, 6:2, 6:1.
In the doubles match, which was no longer important for the team victory, Ilima Huseynova and Aynur Movlyamova won in a super tie-break against Ngoc Dong Nhi Nguyen and Vi Tram Quang - 5:7, 6:2, [10:6].

The Billie Jean King Cup is the largest international team competition in women's tennis. The tournament is organised by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). From 1963 to 2020, the tournament was called the Federation Cup, and in September 2020 it was renamed in honour of American tennis player Billie Jean King. Tennis players under the age of 16 also compete for this trophy separately from adults.
