Today, the 33rd Turkmenistan Football Championship among the clubs of the highest league begins with a match in the Babarap gengeshlik of the Gokdepe etrap between "Ahal" and Balkanabat's "Nebitchi."
The national championship medals will be contested by eight teams, which will play each other in four round-robin stages. Three clubs—“Altyn Asyr,” “Ashgabat,” and “Kopetdag”—represent the capital. "Nebitchi" is from Balkanabat and "Shagadam" is from Turkmenbashi, both in Balkan velayat; "Ahal" is from Ahal velayat; "Merw" is from Mary velayat; and the reigning champion of Turkmenistan, "Arkadag," is from the city of the same name, which is a city of state significance.
The first round will continue on March 5 with the capital derby "Altyn Asyr" vs. "Ashgabat" and the match "Shagadam" vs. "Merw."
The first two round-robin stages of the championship will take place from March 4 to June 22. Matches for the second and third round-robin stages will occur in the second half of the season.
At the end of the championship, the top two teams of Turkmenistan will earn the right to participate in Asian club tournaments.
Recall that at the end of last year's championship, "Arkadag" became the champion of Turkmenistan for the second time. Silver medals went to "Ahal," and bronze medals were awarded to "Altyn Asyr."
