On March 24, a roundtable discussion on increasing public awareness of the benefits of renewable energy sources (RES) and energy efficiency was held at the conference hall of the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan in the city of Mary.
The event, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, was co-organized by the university administration, the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan, the State Concern "Turkmengaz," and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).
Representatives of ministries and departments, state institutions of Turkmenistan, including the Natural Gas Research Institute and the Research and Production Center for Renewable Energy Sources at the university, participated in the discussions of current issues. The meeting was supported by employees of the Delegation of the European Union to Turkmenistan and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Turkmenistan. SDG ambassadors, students, and representatives of public organizations also joined the event from the youth of Turkmenistan.
After viewing an interactive exhibition of models featuring RES, the roundtable was opened by Serdar Nazarov, rector of the institute, Ms. Renata Wrobel, deputy head of the EU Delegation to Turkmenistan, and Dr. Carolina Milov, head of the GIZ project. EU representatives confirmed their intention to continue supporting Turkmenistan's mitigation potential.
As noted by the organizers, the basis for developing the content was two national documents: the National Strategy for the RES Development until 2030 and the "Roadmap of Youth Initiatives to Combat Climate Change in Turkmenistan – Youth for Climate Action 2025."
Upon completion of the roundtable, modern IT equipment was transferred to the Research and Production Center for Renewable Energy Sources at the institute. This support is aimed at strengthening the scientific and research potential of specialists in the energy sector of Turkmenistan in the field of "green" energy and generating sustainable energy solutions.
