Specialists of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and the UN Development Program held a work meeting on the finalization of the Waste Management Concept at which they discussed new legal acts.
The event was a part of the implementation of the project "Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Development of green cities in Ashgabat and Avaza", which is being implemented by the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and the UNDP.
The meeting also discussed issues related to the approval of the waste classifier, their division by hazard classes. The hazard class is a legislative category that reflects the degree of negative impact on the environment, life and human health. And to establish a waste class, it is necessary:
- to take an inventory of the places of formation, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste; to take samples for chemical analysis; to conduct a chemical analysis of the waste composition using an accredited laboratory and to formalize each measurement with a laboratory research protocol.
During the discussion, were made proposals to develop an effective waste management system that would contribute to a “green” future for Turkmenistan.
