“Wheelchair Tennis” program launched in Turkmenistan

The Tennis Federation of Turkmenistan and the United Nations Children's Fund launched the first “Wheelchair Tennis” program in our country, providing children with disabilities with the opportunity to play sports.

As part of the program, 10 children aged 7 to 18 will receive specialized sports strollers, coaching support and individual lessons in accordance with international standards.

The partnership also includes the training of local trainers to conduct classes with children. The culmination of the initiative will be the children's Tennis Festival, which will highlight the role of sport in the social integration of children, as well as inspire more families to participate in adaptive sports initiatives.

Alexander Nartea, Deputy Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund in Turkmenistan, noted that UNICEF's partnership with the Tennis Federation of Turkmenistan is an important step towards transforming the perception of society and removing social barriers on the way to a more inclusive world.

As part of UNICEF's "Sport for Development" approach, which aims to create a truly inclusive environment, sport becomes a tool for building confidence, resilience, and life skills.
