Issues of improving environmental legislation discussed

A round table was held at the UN Building in Ashgabat, where participants discussed issues of further improvement of environmental legislation in Turkmenistan.

The event was organized within the framework of the project "Conservation and Sustainable Management of Land Resources and High Nature Value Ecosystems in the Aral Sea Basin for Multiple Benefits." The project is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan with the support of the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

The round table is timed to coincide with the International Day of Biological Diversity, celebrated annually on May 22. The meeting, held in a hybrid format, was attended by experts, government officials and partners.

Discussions focused on the issues of increasing ecosystem protection through the creation of buffer zones and ecological corridors based on scientific data and modern monitoring technologies. In this context, the event resented the results of an analysis of national legislation in the field of ecological corridors, including provisions on cross-border cooperation.

The round table emphasized the importance of effective management of specially protected natural areas.
