Turkmen footballers started with a victory at the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) U-17 Championship taking place in Tashkent. In the first match of the tournament, which brought together representatives from six countries, our compatriots won against their peers from Afghanistan with a score of 1:0.

According to the championship regulations, the participants are divided into 2 groups.

As a result of the draw, the Turkmenistan U-17 youth national team was placed in Group "B" together with the teams of Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Group "A" consists of the teams of Iran, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.

During the group stage, the teams will play each other once. Then, the group winners will meet in the final. Teams finishing second in their groups will compete for the bronze medals. There will also be a consolation match for fifth and sixth places. All the games are held at the "Dostluk" stadium.

In the first match of Group "A," the Uzbekistan team crushed the Kyrgyzstan team 5:1, making a strong claim for a spot in the final. The fate of the finalist from Group "A" will likely be decided in the match between the youth teams of Iran and Uzbekistan.

The Turkmenistan U-17 youth team is participating in this tournament under the leadership of head coach Ahmet Allaberdiyev. In the next round, the Turkmen footballers will play against their peers from Tajikistan, who also have to play a match against Afghanistan.
