The youth U17 team of Turkmenistan will play in the match for bronze medals at the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) Championship among football players under 17 years old, which is being held from May 24 to 31 in Tashkent. This became known following the results of the group tournament, in which 6 teams participated, divided into two groups.
The Turkmen footballers played two matches in Group B. In the first, they won against the Afghan team 1:0, and in the second, they lost to their opponents from Tajikistan 1:4, who in turn beat the Afghan team 3:0 and won the group with 6 points. The Turkmenistan's team, which is playing under the leadership of head coach Ahmed Allaberdiyev, took second place with 3 points. And the Afghan footballers, without scoring a single point, took third place.
In Group A, having won two victories over the teams of Kyrgyzstan - 5:1 and Iran - 4:2, the team of Uzbekistan took the first place with 6 points. In second place, due to the victory over opponents from Iran - 4:3, the young men of Kyrgyzstan ended up with 3 points. The Iranians finished last, having not a single point to their credit.
Thus, the winners of the groups – the national teams of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan – will meet in the final on May 31. The teams of Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan will play for bronze medals in a face-to-face match. And the losers of the group tournament – the football players of Iran and Afghanistan – will play in a consolation match for 5-6 places.
