A total lunar eclipse was observed in Turkmenistan

On the night of September 7 to 8, residents of Turkmenistan, as well as much of the Earth, witnessed a unique astronomical event—a total lunar eclipse.

The Earth's shadow engulfed the lunar disk, coloring it in crimson-copper tones. The eclipse could be observed around 22:00 local time. People across the country watched the event from apartment windows, balconies, and streets in various cities and regions. Many shared their photos on social networks.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth is exactly aligned between the Sun and the Moon, casting its shadow on its satellite. The reddish tint of the Moon is caused by the refraction of sunlight in the Earth's atmosphere. The total phase of the eclipse lasted 1 hour and 22 minutes, while the entire event lasted over five hours.

Unlike a solar eclipse, no special equipment is required to observe a lunar eclipse. It could be seen with the naked eye, as well as with binoculars, a telescope, or a camera.
