Educational and methodological guide on inclusive education published in Turkmenistan

A new educational and methodological guide titled “Education of Children with Disabilities in Inclusive Learning Environments” has been published in Russian in Turkmenistan.

The guide was released in accordance with the Cooperation Agreement signed between the National Institute of Education of Turkmenistan and the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education of the Russian Federation – Naberezhnye Chelny State Pedagogical University.

The preparation of the publication involved scientific researchers from the National Institute of Education of Turkmenistan, professors and lecturers from Naberezhnye Chelny State Pedagogical University, and the Seyitnazar Seydi Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute.

The content of the educational and methodological guide includes an introduction, nineteen sections grouped into four chapters, as well as appendices and a glossary of terms and concepts.

The introduction discusses current challenges in educating children with disabilities, particularly the importance of implementing innovative pedagogical technologies into the educational process. It emphasizes that inclusive education aims to create equal opportunities and ensure unrestricted access to education for children with disabilities in educational institutions. The introduction outlines the specific conditions required for inclusive education and explains the significance of preparing and publishing this guide.

The four chapters and their respective sections focus on the following core topics: “Characteristics of the Development of Children with Disabilities”; “Psychological and Pedagogical Identification (Diagnosis) of Children with Disabilities”; “Designing Educational Content for Children with Disabilities”; “Assistive Technologies and Elements of an Accessible Environment in Working with Children with Disabilities”.

The guide offers valuable methodological recommendations for the practical organization of educational programs and instructional activities with children who have disabilities. It places significant emphasis on the use of digital educational technologies, which are essential tools for teachers working in inclusive settings.

Additionally, the guide highlights the crucial role of parents in the upbringing and education of children with disabilities. It lists and describes the key functions of the family in the rehabilitation process of this group of children.

The inclusion of key information in relevant tables further enhances the educational value of this methodological guide.

At the end of the guide, there are eight appendices providing important supplementary information related to the main content. The glossary included in the publication contains explanations for 62 important terms and concepts connected to the textbook’s content.

The development and publication of this new educational and methodological guide on inclusive education are intended to support the successful implementation of the goals and objectives outlined in the “Concept for Improving Teaching Methods in General Education Programs in Turkmenistan until 2028,” approved by a Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan.

As a significant outcome of collaborative efforts between Turkmen and Russian experts, this new publication will serve as a valuable resource for educators and students of higher and secondary pedagogical institutions, specialists in educational organizations, and parents, in ensuring inclusive education and upbringing of children with disabilities.
