CARAVAN Project held a workshop on media literacy and ethical use of AI

From October 21 to 23, a three-day workshop titled “Media Literacy and AI Integration for Content Creators” was held in Ashgabat with the support of the European Union. The intensive training, organized within the framework of the CARAVAN media project, aimed to teach aspiring journalists skills in fact-checking, storytelling, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools.

In his welcoming remarks, Borislav Dimitrov, Program Manager at the Delegation of the European Union to Turkmenistan, emphasized the relevance of the topic in the digital age. He noted that the workshop contributes to the development of critical thinking, the mastering of modern journalism formats, and the practical application of AI — enabling participants to create reliable and meaningful content.

The workshop brought together young media professionals and journalism students. During interactive sessions, participants completed practical and group assignments, honing their skills in content creation, verification, and fact-checking, while also learning to use artificial intelligence tools.

Special attention was given to the ethical standards of working with neural networks, since the rapid integration of AI technologies into everyday processes requires not only careful study but also competent and purposeful application.

Invited experts shared their experience, including: Marat Sadykov (Kazakhstan) – media expert on mobile journalism and the use of AI tools; Anna Sukhachyova – expert in media literacy, storytelling, communication psychology, and cyberpsychology; Aizhan Kalimbetova – expert in online communications.

The specialists discussed how to engage audiences, create high-quality content, and effectively use modern digital tools. At the end of the workshop, participants received certificates of successful completion of the program.

The CARAVAN media project, funded by the European Union, operates across all Central Asian countries, conducting various training programs. The main goal of the project is to strengthen audiences’ resilience to disinformation, fostering a safer information environment and developing critical thinking. Another objective is to enhance national media landscapes and deepen regional cooperation among media professionals from Central Asia and other regions.
