Perspectives of Turkmen – Korean cooperation in transport and logistics are discussed in Ashgabat

The capital Yildyz hotel held the seminar “Cooperation in transport, logistics and infrastructure for sustainable development” organized by the Ministry of Automobile Transport of Turkmenistan and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in our country.

Leading specialists on number of national ministries and departments of automobile and railroad transport, communication, construction and architecture, finances and economics, State Custom Service, State Concern Turkmenawtoyollary, State Maritime and River Line Transport Service, Strategic Planning and Economic Development Institute, Turkmen Logistics Association and other took part in the meeting.

Representatives of leading universities and business circles of the Republic of Korea including High Logistics School of Incheon National University, Korean Transport Institute (KOTI), «Taewoong Logistics», «Pantos Logistics», «KJ International», «Evergreen Motors», «Hyundai Corporation», «LG International Corporation», «POSCO DAEWOO Corporation», «SK Holding», «Hyundai Engineering» companies.

Highlighting the importance of the subject discussed during current meeting, the participants noted that cooperation in such perspective sphere as transport and logistics is an integral factor of positive integration processes in the globalization of the world economy and general sustainable development.

Turkmenistan holds active position in the issues of international cooperation I this direction. This is indicated by the initiatives of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov supported by the world community, which resulted in the UN Resolutions “Role of Transport and Transit Corridors in International Cooperation for the Goals of Sustainable Development”, “Toward the Provision of Comprehensive Cooperation between All Modes of Transport for Establishment of Multimodal Transit Corridors” and “Strengthening the Link between All Modes of Transport to Achieve the Goals of Sustainable Development”.

Favourable geographic location of Turkmenistan stipulates its status as an important transit and transport hub of regional and continental significance. Trying maximally realize existing potential in this sphere, our country successfully implements targeted national programmes aimed at integrated modernization of equipment and facilities base of all modes of transport, expansion of existing and formation of new transport and communication networks.

Railways Kazakhstan – Turkmenistan – Iran and Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Tajikistan, automobile and railway bridges across the Amudarya, airports in Ashgabat and regions, speed highways, Turkmenbashy International Seaport and other facilities that have been put into operation and still under construction are to be important links of international network of transport communications.

All these measures are to support active integration of national transport system into international communication infrastructure, establishment of large logistic centres in Turkmenistan providing coordination of regional and interregional multimodal cargo traffic.

The presentation of Turkmen side also noted that consolidation of fruitful relations with Asian Pacific countries including with the Republic of Korea is one of the key aspects of foreign strategy of Turkmenistan. In this aspect, the cooperation in transport sector is one of the priority vectors of the development of Turkmen – Korean relations in the nearest future. Today, big opportunities for realization of joint infrastructural and logistic projects and long-term capital investments are opened in this sphere.

During discussion of the perspectives of beneficial cooperation, representative of Korea stated with delight that recently, the interstate relations are gradually developing. This is visually indicated by regular contacts on different levels, which success was reflected in remarkable activation of the activity of the leading Korean companies in perspective Turkmen market.

Interested exchange of the opinions on progress of bilateral agreements achieved earlier in different levels was held during the seminar; number of business proposals was made and specific measures for their practical implementation were outlined.

Speaking of the importance of the meeting, the participants of the seminar noted that implementation of beneficial projects in this sphere would be a strong impulse for further integration of the states of the region to the processes of global economic development, would support the income of the investments and efficient cooperation for the interests of the countries and nations of the continent.
