Representatives of Caspian states discuss the cooperation in transport sphere

Regular session of authorised representatives of Caspian states including the heads and leading specialists of profile ministries and departments of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan started work in Ashgabat.

This is the third meeting of the experts organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State Service of Maritime and River Transport and State Enterprise on Caspian Sea Affairs under the President of Turkmenistan for the coordination of the Draft Agreement on cooperation of Caspian states in transport sphere. This document was elaborated by Turkmen side according to the initiatives of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proposed at the Summit of the Heads of Caspian States in Astrakhan (Russian Federation) in 2014.

It was mentioned during the session that transport sphere is significant point of the growth of national economies and serves as important connecting link in building of constructive and fruitful relations between the countries of Caspian region, which are developed in the spirit of friendship and good neighbourhood and respect of mutual interests. Beneficial geographic location between Europe and Asia is the feature of our states what open big perspectives in transit transportation sphere and provision of logistic services.

Today, each of the countries realizes big investment projects for establishment of modern infrastructure of maritime, automobile, railroad and air transportation of passengers and cargo. Construction of Turkmenbashy International Seaport, which is planned to be opened soon, is one of the examples of such projects. Activation of existing transcontinental routes and formation of new transport corridors across the Caspian will provide the conditions for further dynamic social and economic development of neighbouring states and will allow increasing their investment attractiveness, will support the improvement of regional and continental trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian relations and tourism.

At present, preparation to important events – International Transport Forum and IX session of Transport Minister of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) members, in Avaza National tourism zone in the beginning of May is going on.

During current session, the participants discussed wide spectrum of subjects related with regional coordination of multimodal transportation in order to provide their complementarity and high competiveness, the development of technical ways of cooperation of different modes of transport as well as by synchronization of custom regulations, tariff policy and facilitation of transit cargo procedures.

Summing up the outcomes of the discussion, the participants noted that the experts made big work on all key directions of cooperation in Caspian Sea under the preparation of regular high-level meeting of the heads of Caspian states. The process of consents of the positions on the draft of new agreement is coming to the end. Signing of this Agreement will be remarkable event in the light of integration of our transport systems and will give additional stimulus to beneficial partnership in strategic transport sector.
