President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov attends the opening ceremony of a new university

The opening ceremony of the new institution of higher education – the International University of Humanities and Development took place with the participation of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Knowledge and Students Day celebrated in our country at the national level.

The building of the International University of Humanities and Development that sprang up on Andalib Street in the neighbourhood of the Institute of International Relations of MFA of Turkmenistan and the building complex of Magtymguly Turkmen State University blends well with the monumental architectural ensemble of the university campus in the city centre.

The International University of Humanities and Development is established in accordance with the Decree of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov of May 16, 2014. About 300 students will be admitted to the International University each year and trained in 14 specialities, including philosophy, sociology, public international law, private international law, international relations and world politics, journalism, international economics, international commerce, international finance, insurance, international management, computer technology, computer software and information and communication technologies.

Lectures and seminars at the International University will be delivered in the English language on a paying basis. In this regard, students will attend one-year advanced language training courses and study terminology of their chosen specialization. The two-tier of higher education system will be used at this educational institution for the first time in our country – young people will study bachelor's degree and master’s degree – in line with requirements for the establishment of unified globally recognized educational standards.

The first students have been admitted to the Department of Foreign Languages this year. The University will include 5 faculties with 13 departments. Currently, the work is underway to form the staff of lecturers and university professors from foreign countries who will provide training in the major specialities.

The university campus includes the University building, where 2,000 students can be trained simultaneously, three hostels, the canteen for 300 visitors, the indoor sports complex with the stands for 240 spectators, outdoor volleyball, basketball and tennis courts and sports grounds, maintenance units and car parks.

The President visited a number of lecture rooms and conference hall supplied with equipment for simultaneous interpretation in several languages to see the conditions created for work and studies at the new University building.

The representatives of the international organisations, who attended the opening ceremony, put forward the proposal for the accession of the International University of Humanities and Development to the global initiative – the United Nations Academic Impact.

The President of Turkmenistan said that children of the ambassadors accredited to Turkmenistan could study at the International University. The Turkmen leader also recommended that the management of the International University should engage officials of foreign diplomatic missions and international organisations accredited to our country, many of whom are experts in political science, sociology, ecology, and many other fields of study, in providing training at the new higher education institution. They can also be engaged in delivering lectures and seminars or conducting research activities and developing research projects jointly with Turkmen scientists, thus contributing to the promotion of international relations in the spheres of education and science.

The President of Turkmenistan wrote an entry to the Book of Guests of Honour of the new Turkmen higher education institution - the International University of Humanities and Development in commemoration of the remarkable event.
