President of Turkmenistan attends the opening ceremonies in Balkan Velayat

The opening ceremony of the new building of Balkan Velayat library, the multifunctional shopping centre in Balkanabat and the therapeutic mud and sea salt packing plant in Jebel viallge took place with the participation of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

In the morning, the plane of the President of Turkmenistan landed at the airport in Balkanabat. The Chairperson of Mejlis, cabinet ministers, heads of military and law enforcement agencies and velayat hyakims cordially greeted the Turkmen leader at the airport.

The President drove from the airport to Balkanabat, where the new building of Balkan Velayat library sprang up.


The new library building located in the neighbourhood of the central amusement recreation park ranks among the landmarks of the administrative centre of Balkan Velayat. Numerous participants and guests of the opening ceremony greeted the Turkmen leader. They included members of the parliament, heads of ministries and departments, representatives of Ashgabat and the regions of our country, public organisations and media, cultural and art workers and the elders.

Thanking the ceremony participants and guests for a warm welcome, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov talked to the elders about their everyday concerns. The Turkmen leader cordially congratulated those present on the upcoming national holiday – the 23rd anniversary of independence of the Motherland.

Addressing the ceremony participants, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that the new building of Balkan Velayat library, the multifunctional shopping centre, the therapeutic mud and sea salt packing plant and the plant producing iodine products were going to be put into operation on that day.


In a solemn atmosphere President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov cut the ribbon and entered the spacious bright foyer of the library. The new library building houses five reading halls, conference hall for 125 visitors, Internet café and computer classrooms. There is the telescope on the seventh floor to explore the universe.

The magnificent building 45 metres high can be seen from afar. Its facade is designed in the form of an open book – the source of knowledge – placed on the globe. There is a public garden with evergreen trees, fountains with coloured lights and original street lamps in front of the main entrance of the library building.

When visiting the library, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov wished outstanding labour achievements, good health and wellbeing to the staff.


Then the President headed to the largest shopping centre in Balkan Velayat. To the applause of those present the President cut the ribbon and entered the territory of the shopping precinct, which covers an area of 35 hectares.

The territory of the shopping precinct is divided into several specialized shopping areas where visitors can buy a variety of products, including those produced by domestic manufacturers. A total of 119 stores and 880 outlets are located on the territory of the shopping precinct. There are the separate areas where vehicles, construction materials, cattle and sheep will be sold. There are the laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation on the territory of the shopping precinct.


The President congratulated those present on the opening of the new shopping centre. Then the Turkmen leader headed to another newly built facility – the therapeutic mud and sea salt packing plant located in Jebel village.

In a solemn atmosphere the President cut the ribbon to the applause of those present and entered the building. The annual capacity of the plant is 400,000 packages of environmentally friendly therapeutic and cosmetic products, including 200,000 packages of Mollakara therapeutic mud, 100,000 packages of volcanic mud and 100,000 packages of sea salt.

After the ceremony had been concluded, the Turkmen leader presented new cars to local workers.

Congratulating the ceremony participants on the opening of the new facility of Turkmenistan’s medical industry and wished its specialists every success in their work, the President left the ceremony venue.
