The meeting of the Elders’ Council of Turkmenistan

The Elders’ Council meeting chaired by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took place at the Ruhiyet Palace in the administrative centre of Lebap Velayat. The genda of the forum held on the eve of the glorious holiday – the 23d anniversary of independence of our Motherland focused on the priority objectives of the further development of the country.

High-ranking officials, including Velayat Khyakims greeted the Turkmen leader at the entrance to the Ruhiyet Palace.

Among the forum delegates were the elders, the cabinet ministers, the heads of the Mejlis, ministries and departments, military and law enforcement agencies, political parties and public organisations, the khyakims of velayats, towns, etraps and Ashgabat, the members of the national Parliament, workers of various sectors of the national economy, scientists, cultural workers and young citizens of our country. The ambassadors of Turkmenistan in foreign states, the heads of diplomatic representations and missions accredited in Turkmenistan, the major international organisations, the foreign business circles and the national and foreign media were invited to attend the forum.

The President of Turkmenistan delivered a keynote speech at the forum. The Turkmen leader summed up the large-scale work implemented in Turkmenistan within the framework of the complex changes and reforms as well as specified the key areas of the further successive social and economic development of the country and identified the actions required for strengthening the democratic traditions in the Turkmen society.


The floor was given to the forum participants. The representatives of different professions, regions and generations and forum delegates discussed the issues included in the forum agenda.

Summing up the discussions, the President of Turkmenistan expressed gratitude to all those speaking during the forum and noted that all proposals put forward within the framework of the meeting would be considered.

The President signed a number of documents during the forum. These include the Decree authorizing to present government awards and honorary titles to Turkmen citizens in honour of the 23d anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed the Decree authorizing to confer the title of the Honorary Elder of Turkmenistan.

The ceremony of presenting government awards and honorary titles took place during the Elders’ Council meeting.

Then the floor was given to Chairman of Magtymguly Committee on International Awards of Turkmenistan O. Mammetnurov, who read out the Resolution of the Committee on the presentation of Magtymguly International Award to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for his outstanding contribution to the revival, preservation, and wide popularization of the rich historical, cultural and spiritual heritage of the nation, an integral part of which is the works by the great poet and thinker – Magtymguly Fragi.

Under the storm of applause, Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan A. Nurberdyeva presented the Honorary Award to the Turkmen leader.

The President of Turkmenistan also presented the medals “Magtymguly Fragi” to those honoured with the high state award.

A number of organizational issues were considered during the meeting. The Turkmen leader informed the forum delegates that the next meeting of the Elders’ Council would take place in the Avaza Etrap, Turkmenbashi town in Balkan Velayat.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also signed the Resolution adopted at the meeting of the Elders’ Council of Turkmenistan on declaring the year of 2015 – the year of neutrality and peace in honour of the 20th anniversary of neutrality of Turkmenistan.

Summing up the national forum, the Address of the members of the Elders’ Council to the Turkmen people based on the recommendations and proposals submitted during the forum for consideration. The document was adopted unanimously.
