President of Turkmenistan holds a meeting to discuss the ways to implement decisions of the Elders’ Council

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a working meeting with the Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers, during which the ways to speed up the fulfilment of the tasks set at the meeting of the Elder’s Council and the important decisions adopted at the forum were considered.

The President of Turkmenistan dwelt upon the top priority tasks that he had specified in his speech at the meeting of the Elders’ Council and gave the cabinet ministers the recommendations on the ways to achieve the objectives in each area.

The current situation and the areas of subsequent activities, the amount of work to be done in the construction sector, the fuel and energy sector, including gas and petrochemical industries, industrial and transit transport segment and the balanced development of social, housing and industrial infrastructures in the regions were considered in particular. Special attention was paid to the implementation of the major investment projects in collaboration with foreign partners.

The Turkmen leader focused on the development of the telecommunications sector in connection with the forthcoming launch of the national artificial satellite in space in the near future. The Turkmen leader highlighted the need of the extensive use of the potential of Turkmen entrepreneurs particularly to create fundamentally new industries and high-tech enterprises.

Emphasizing that the further promotion of culture and the enrichment of the spiritual environment of the society is as essential for the progress of the country as economic growth, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov specified major measures to be taken in this sphere, particularly to preserve, study and popularize worldwide the tangible and intangible heritage of the Turkmen people.

Noting that one of our development priorities is to bring the national system of education and science in line with the highest international standards, the Turkmen leader touched upon the need to establish the engineering and technology institute at the Academy of Science of Turkmenistan as the human resource base of innovation capabilities of the country.

Identifying the sectors in which large-scale work was to be done, the Turkmen leader mentioned the health care sector, medical industry, tourism and sport, drawing attention of the high-ranking officials in charge of the abovementioned sectors to a number of key issues requiring urgent attention.

A wide range of issues was considered in the context of the large-scale reforms taking place in the agricultural industry and its processing sectors and in the spheres of water supply and irrigation and environmental protection.

Emphasizing that a key aspect of the policy of the Turkmen state at the present stage is the consistent improvement of the welfare of citizens, the President said that no state in the world provides benefits and social support like those provided in our country. The Turkmen leader focused on the need to tailor the current social protection policy to present-day conditions of a market economy and ensure effective and highly profitable activities of the enterprises that produce consumer goods and render services.

The issues related to further implementation of the foreign policy strategy and promotion of mutually beneficial international cooperation were considered during the meeting.

Noting that in 2015 our country will celebrated the 20th anniversary of the legal status of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan recognized by the world community and enshrined in the UN General Assembly Resolution, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov touched upon the decision of the Elders’ Council to declare 2015 as the Year of Neutrality and gave specific instructions to hold various activities and celebrations to mark the Year of Neutrality.

Touching upon further steps to be taken to deepen democratic processes in the social and political life of the country, the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov urged to develop the multi-party system in Turkmenistan and emphasized the importance of the next stage of constitutional reform. In this context, the issues related to the revision of the administrative territorial division of the country given the intensive development of the territories, the enlargement of settlements and the formation of new ones were discussed.

The President emphasized that regional development diversification created new conditions and requirements for their management and set major tasks of strategic planning, integrated and effective use of their resources and industrial potential. In this regard, the Turkmen leader made changes to the structure of supervision of the regions by the Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The Turkmen leader gave the cabinet ministers specific instructions on the organisation and management of the work in the sectors under their supervision to ensure the implementation of the decisions of the Elders’ Council and demanded that the Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers should keep the implementation of planned measures under personal control.

Upon concluding the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov wished all those present every success in their work.
