President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov held the talks in the Turkmen capital. An official ceremony of greeting the distinguished guest took place at the Oguzhan Presidential Palace Complex.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited President Islam Karimov to enter the Hall of bilateral meetings, where they had one-on-one talks.
The two leaders discussed a wide range of issues related to the current state and prospects of Turkmen-Uzbek partnership in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and confidence. The sides exchanged views on a number of topical issues of regional and international politics.
The talks continued in Sultan Sanjar Hall with the participation of the government delegations of the two countries.
The ceremony of signing bilateral documents was held. The Agreement on cooperation between the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in agricultural technology, machinery and equipment between the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan and the Ministry for Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan, the Programme of Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan for 2015-2016, the Joint Action Plan of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan on the effective implementation of the third phase of the Program of actions on providing assistance to the countries of the Aral Sea Basin were signed.
To the applause of those present President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov put their signatures to the Joint Statement.
After the signing ceremony had concluded, the two leaders gave a press conference in Magtymguly Hall.
Commenting on the results of the Ashgabat summit, the President of Turkmenistan focused on the productivity and substantivity of the talks. The talks testified to the readiness of the two countries to provide assistance to the positive processes in the region and contribute to its progress and prosperity. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the two countries had a mutual understanding on the ways of settling the situation in Afghanistan.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that the bilateral talks focused on Turkmen-Uzbek cooperation in sustainable energy and energy security. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the sides had agreed to promote close cooperation in the ecological and environmental spheres. The sides agreed to enhance cooperation in the strategic areas, such as the energy and transport sectors.
It was noted that the talks also focused on the water and energy issues in Central Asia. It was emphasized that Turkmenistan's position on these issues is well known, it has been and remains unchanged. Our country urges to consider and address these issues in compliance with universally recognized norms of international law, mutual respect and consideration for the interests of all states in the region ad in collaboration with international organisations.
Addressing the press conference, President Islam Karimov said that the talks had spotlighted the similarity or coincidence of positions, views and opinions of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan on the whole spectrum of issues discussed in Ashgabat and the mutual belief of the sides in the unity of the long-term interests and strategic priorities.

Focusing on the great prospects of bilateral cooperation in the transport sector, President Islam Karimov supported the proposal of the President of Turkmenistan on partnership in the transport and communications sectors. Confirming the readiness of Uzbekistan to cooperate on the priority sectors, the distinguished guest emphasized the important role of Turkmenistan as a strategic transport hub of regional and international importance.
Focusing on the importance of traditional cultural and humanitarian ties, President Islam Karimov said that they contribute to a mutual understanding between fraternal peoples.

The President of Turkmenistan said that President Islam Karimov received Magtymguly International Prize in May of this year. To the applause of those present, the Turkmen leader presented the honorary award to President Islam Karimov.
President Islam Karimov presented the Order of Independence the Republic of Uzbekistan and the certificate to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the storm of applause of those present.
In the afternoon, the leader of Uzbekistan headed to the Halk hakydasy memorial complex, where he took part in the flower laying ceremony.
In the evening, the President of Turkmenistan gave an official dinner in honour of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The two leaders exchanged speeches during the official reception.
