President of Turkmenistan receives Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Chairman of the Executive Committee - Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States Sergei Lebedev, who arrived in the Turkmen capital to participate in a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government.

Expressing gratitude for the active support and the high level of organization of the important meeting in the format of the CIS, the guest emphasized that Turkmenistan demonstrated a constructive approach to promoting bilateral relations. Sergei Lebedev said that abiding to the principles of neutrality, the Turkmen state is committed to integration cooperation, open and productive dialogue within the Commonwealth. Given modern realities and national interests of all parties this position of Turkmenistan and the Turkmen leader's constructive initiatives aimed at deepening and building up fruitful relationships are fully supported by CIS Member States.

Greeting the Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that cooperation within the Commonwealth of Independent States ranked among the determinants of the foreign policy strategy of our country. Neutral Turkmenistan as an associate member of the Commonwealth pursues the policy of broad cooperation with the CIS countries, promoting effective and mutually beneficial partnership in bi- and multi-lateral formats.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and his guest discussed the main issues put on the agenda of the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government.

Exchanging views on key aspects of cooperation within the Commonwealth, emphasis was placed on the trade and economic sector and the enhancement of traditional cultural contacts as priority areas, among others.

Taking an opportunity, Sergei Lebedev thanked the Turkmen leader for the initiative and the high level of organization of the School Culture and Sports Festival of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which took place in the Avaza national tourism zone in September this year.

Upon concluding the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan and the Chairman of the Executive Committee - Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States expressed belief that the outcomes of the Ashgabat Summit would provide a reliable platform for further optimization of cooperation and contribute to strengthening the traditional ties of friendship and good neighbourliness and creating an atmosphere of mutual confidence and understanding within the CIS.
