Meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government in Ashgabat

Ashgabat hosted a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government. The representative delegations of the CIS member states, including Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan as well as the delegation of the CIS Executive Committee arrived in the Turkmen capital to participate in the meeting. The Permanent Plenipotentiary Representative of Moldova to the statuary and other CIS agencies and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine Turkmenistan represented their countries at the meeting.

In the morning, the distinguished guests headed to the building of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov cordially greeted the heads of the delegations at the foyer of the building. The forum participants wee invited to head to the Marble Hall, where the meting took place.

Then the meeting continued with the participation of the government delegations of the CIS states in the Big Hall.

Opening the meeting, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude to the high guests for their participation in the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government.


The Turkmen leader noted that Turkmenistan put forward a number of initiatives on establishment of transport corridors taken the specific steps in this area, in particular construction of railways, highways and development of the maritime transportation system.

The President of Turkmenistan also focused on cooperation in the sphere of energy, where the Turkmen state put forward an initiative on ensuring the stable, reliable and sustainable transit of energy sources to the world markets that was supported by authoritative international organisations.

Speaking about the existing opportunities and potential for mutually beneficial partnership between the CIS states, the Turkmen leader emphasized that Turkmenistan paid significant attention to small and medium-sized business and manufacturing sector that provided a wide field for joint work.

Taking an opportunity, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov thanked the CIS states for their participation in the celebrations on occasion of the 290th anniversary of the great Turkmen poet and thinker Magtymguly Fragi and translation of his poems into the languages of the peoples of the CIS states.


The meeting participants discussed a number of issues included into agenda of the meeting and considered the projects of the documents related to various areas of cooperation. The issues of cooperation in the trade, economic, humanitarian and cultural sectors were discussed during the meeting. Participants of the meeting considered the Plan of priority events in the sphere of humanitarian cooperation for 2015-2016 and approved the 2015-2017 Plan of events on implementation of the Strategy of the development of cooperation of the CIS states in the sphere tourism till 2020.

The next meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government will be held in May, 2015 in the capital of Kazakhstan – Astana.

After the talks, the ceremony of signing documents, which are aimed at contributing the further consolidation and improvement of the constructive collaboration within the CIS took place.

Upon completion of the ceremony, Chairman of the Executive Committee - Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States Sergei Lebedev gave a press conference. Commenting on the outcomes of the meeting, the Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee highly evaluated the organizational level of the meeting in Ashgabat that became a next important step towards development of the efficient partnership within the CIS.
