The elections of Halk Maslakhaty members in velayats, etraps, and cities were held in the country on a broad competitive basis. The elections became another important step towards strengthening the democratic foundations of life of the Turkmen society and reviving the traditions of democracy. This important social and political event vividly demonstrated the aspiration of the people of Turkmenistan to participate in the democratic processes taken place in the country in the name of the happy future of the Fatherland.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was among the first to vote that day. Turkmen leader’s father Myalikguly Berdimuhamedov and mother Ogulabat Berdimuhamedova came to the polling station to perform their civic duty together with other citizens of the country.
The elections were held on a democratic, alternative basis in a transparent atmosphere, where several candidates run in the election per one place. Among them are people of different ages and professions, members of various parties.
By afternoon, 92.76 percent of voters gave their votes for the worthiest candidates in all regions and the Turkmen capital. According to the legislation of Turkmenistan, the elections were declared valid. The results will be announced soon.
