President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov delivered a speech at the meeting of the heads of the delegations that arrived in the Turkmen capital to participate in the sports media-forum and the ceremony of signing the Memorandum between the Organizational Committee of the V Indoor and Martial Arts Games, the Olympic Council of Asia and the Oceania National Olympic Committees.
Speaking at the meeting, the President noted that Turkmenistan was proud of the fact that the Olympic Council of Asia had chosen our country to host the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. The Turkmen leader continued that we considered this decision as a symbol of the recognition of the successes achieved by Turkmenistan at the sports arena, and a positive result of the work done to popularize the healthy lifestyle and attract more people to practicing physical culture and sports.
The President said that Turkmenistan would apply every effort so that all participants of the V Asian Games feel the hospitality of the Turkmen land and the geniality of our people.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also congratulated all those present on the forthcoming ceremony of signing the Memorandum between the Organizational Committee of the V Indoor and Martial Arts Games, the Olympic Council of Asia and the Oceania National Olympic Committees, which opened up a new page in the history of the Olympic Council of Asia.
«In general, due to signing the Memorandum, in addition to 45 National Olympic Committees that are members of the Olympic Council of Asia, 17 Oceania National Olympic Committees will participate in the V Asian Games. That, in turn, puts more responsibilities on the organizers of the Games, and requires well-coordinated work to ensure the success of the V Asian Games in Ashgabat in 2017».
«The Olympic Village amounted to over US$ five billion is under construction in our country. It will be one of the largest sports complexes in Central Asia. The complex that occupies 157-hectare territory hosts over 30 facilities equipped in accordance with all requirements set by the International Olympic Committee to the multi-sports facilities», continued the President.
«In accordance with the Olympic Council of Asia, the programme of the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games will include 19 sports. Taking this opportunity, and with the aim to attract more athletes to these games, we propose to include two more sports - horse riding and Turkmen national wrestling - goresh into the programme. In recent years, these sports have gained wide popularity among sports fans and athletes. That was vividly proved by successful organisation of the World Championship on Belt Wrestling and Goresh Turkmen National Wrestling in Ashgabat few days ago», the Turkmen leader said.
