The ceremony of awarding the honorary title of Turkmenistan - the Honorary Elder of the Nation to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan took place at Oguzhan palace complex after the press conference on the outcomes of the top level talks had concluded.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Turkmen leader said:" We can see close attention paid by the leader of Kazakhstan to relations with Turkmenistan. Our meetings have been always held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust, evidencing the sincere intention to do everything possible to strengthen bilateral ties. And it brings real results. It is undeniable services of Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev that today we rightly call Kazakhstan a fraternal country, a faithful and reliable friend of Turkmenistan.”

In a festive atmosphere the distinguished guest was clothed in the traditional Turkmen national don, telpek and kushak to the applause of those present. The insignia was presented to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.


Thanking for the high honour, the leader of the Republic of Kazakhstan noted that he regarded the conferring of the title of the Honorary Elder of the Nation as an expression of respect for the Kazakh people. President Nursultan Nazarbayev said that he was always glad to visit beautiful white-marble Ashgabat, which is becoming a gem of the region.

Emphasizing that the Turkmen and Kazakh peoples had historical, cultural and spiritual affinities, President Nursultan Nazarbayev called for the intensification of cooperation between historians of the two countries, including in the framework of TURKSOY, the International Turkic Academy, which will contribute to strengthening the age-old ties of friendship, brotherhood and good neighbourliness.

The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan visited the Halk Hakydasy memorial complex built in commemoration of national heroes - the defenders of the Motherland and victims of the 1948 earthquake in Ashgabat. The leader of Kazakhstan attended the ceremony of laying flowers to the memorial complex and visited the museum, where he wrote an entry to the Book of Guests of Honour.

In the evening, the President of Turkmenistan gave an official reception in honour of the distinguished guest, during which the two leaders exchanged speeches.
