President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani attended the ceremony of joining Turkmenistan-Iran section to Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway.

The Presidents of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Iran watched the departure of the first freight cars towards the Islamic Republic of Iran along the new Turkmenistan-Iran section to Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway.

Trilateral meeting of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Iran was held at the Incheburun railway station.
Speaking about the historical importance of the new transnational railway, the leaders of the three states underlined that during the years passed since the beginning of the project, its significance had increased. The center of the world trade and production shifts to Asia increasing the importance of access to Asian markets.
It was noted that the new transnational railway would offer a powerful incentive to the social and economic development of the countries participating in the project, would create new jobs. All this will promote growing of the wellbeing, increasing the level and improving the quality of people’s life.
The initiative on establishing a trilateral format of work with the aim to ensure the further work of the project and its functional efficiency as well as to enhance cooperation between the three countries in this area was put forward during the meeting.
The railway is not only an economically viable project, but it is also a serious factor of geopolitics that can have a major positive impact on the overall situation in the region and beyond, promote stability and sustainable development in Asia and strengthen the integration process on the principles of constructiveness, good-neighborliness and mutual benefit. This project has a distinct social significance since it allows creation of necessary modern infrastructure and new jobs along the steel highway.
