President of Turkmenistan attends the opening ceremony of the international energy forum

Ashgabat is hosting the Energy Charter Forum “Reliable and Stable Transit of Energy”. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov attended the opening ceremony.

The aim of the High-Level Energy Forum held at the initiative of the leader of Turkmenistan is to promote and strengthen international energy cooperation, build a qualitatively new platform for discussing the pressing global energy problems and ensure global energy security as an essential factor of global sustainable development in the effort to implement the relevant Resolution of the UN General Assembly co-authored by dozens of states.


The forum brought together specialists of the authoritative international organisations, including the Energy Charter Secretariat, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, the World Trade Organization, the Economic Cooperation Organization, and heads and experts of energy companies, government agencies, etc.

The wide representation of many countries, including Russia, United States, Turkey, United Kingdom, China, Croatia, Belarus, Austria, Sweden, Norway, Hungary, Bulgaria, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Argentina, Armenia Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, India, Jordan, and Egypt, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Laos, Niger and Cote d'Ivoire, among others illustrates the international status of the forum. The Turkmen side is represented by the cabinet ministers, heads and specialists of sector ministries and departments and other government agencies.


President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov addressed the plenary session of the Energy Charter Forum “Reliable and Stable Transit of Energy”.

In his speech, the Turkmen leader emphasized that independent neutral Turkmenistan contributed to the promotion of global energy cooperation through putting forward the important international initiatives to respond to the pressing issues of modern world, including in the energy sector.

The Turkmen leader emphasized that the demand of the general public for equitable distribution and consumption of energy should be taken into consideration. Focusing on the importance of ensuring global energy security, the President of Turkmenistan noted that it should involve energy production, transit and consumption.

Emphasizing the need to establish concrete and immutable relations between energy exporters, transit countries and consumers, the Turkmen leader presented his views on this issue.


The President of Turkmenistan expressed gratitude to the international organisations for supporting the initiatives and proposals of our country.

Secretary General of the Energy Charter Mr. Urban Rusnak, Minister of Economy of the Republic of Croatia Mr. Ivan Vrdoljak, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Yervand Zakharyan and Coordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities, Mr. Halil Yurdakul Yigitguden addressed the forum.

The themes of the panel sessions include the Prospect of Gas Producers, Energy Transit: Complexities and Benefits and Participation Diversification and Consumer Opportunities.
