During a meeting with the deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan of the fifth convocation, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov identified the priority tasks to be achieved by Turkmen parliamentarians at the present stage of development of independent Turkmenistan.
Before the meeting, the Turkmen leader conducted a working session with the Chairperson of Mejlis, Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers and heads of military and law-enforcement agencies at the building of the Mejlis.
Chairperson of Mejlis A. Nurberdyeva reported on the work done by the deputies of the Parliament on drafting legislative acts related to the most important aspects of life of the state and society as well as further development of the legal system of the country.
Speaking during the meeting, high-ranking officials emphasized that representatives of various sectors had taken an active part in the work on improvement of laws of Turkmenistan with the aim to ensure the sustainable development of all sectors of the national economy.
Noting that the key area of the law-making work of the deputies of the Mejlis include the protection of the rights and freedoms of a person and a citizen, the Turkmen leader underlined the significance of the improvement of laws to achieve new heights in the social and economic development of the country and guarantee the fundamental rights and duties of a person.
Underlining the importance of regular meetings of parliamentarians with their electorates and their interest in the life of citizens, who work in different sectors of the national economy, in ensuring sustainable development of the country, the President focused on the necessity to further strengthen the legislative system, draft new statutory and legal acts as well as carry out efficient work in this sphere.
The President wished the meeting participants every success in their work in the name of the country and the people and headed to the Conference hall, where the Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers, heads of military and law-enforcement agencies, ministries and departments, public organisations and the media gathered together.
Addressing the parliamentarians, the Turkmen leader emphasized that the year of 2015 was declared the Year of Neutrality and Peace in Turkmenistan.
