President of Turkmenistan conducts a videoconference meeting

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov conducted a regular videoconference meeting with the Chairperson of Mejlis, Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers, hyakims of the regions and Ashgabat and heads of number of ministries and departments. The meeting agenda focused on the measures taken to manage the agricultural campaigns, develop and beautify the regions and create new jobs. The major themes of discussion included the work towards combating the global threats facing mankind today – drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking on a national scale.

The Turkmen leader was informed of the current situation in the regions, including the progress of the planned landscaping activities, the agricultural campaigns, construction of social facilities and preparation of agricultural machinery for the cotton campaign. The reports on the aware-raising activities aiming to strengthen the foundations of a healthy society and the measures taken to ensure the rule of law and prevent illicit drug trafficking were presented during the meeting.

The information on the preparations for a meeting of the Elders’ Council, which will take place in Avaza Etrap of Turkmenbashi town, was presented during the meeting.

The report on the current situation in the capital city and the measures taken to beautify the city, including the newly established etraps, and improve social infrastructure in Ashgabat was presented.

The projects of a multitype hospital and a shopping and entertainment centre and their layouts in Lebap Velayat were presented to the Turkmen leader for consideration.

The Turkmen leader focused on the importance of a systematic approach to creating a green environment as one of the main aspects of the improvement of the people’s welfare, noting that more attention should be paid to these activities at the local level, in particular in newly established settlements.

Dwelling upon the work towards effectively addressing employment issues as a key aspect of the activities of regional administrations, the Turkmen leader instructed to develop the action plan to create jobs in the regions.

Touching upon the measures to combat illicit drug trafficking, the President focused on the role of civil institutions, local governments and public organisations, particularly youth organisations, and demanded that control over the ongoing work in this area should be enhanced.

The Turkmen leader instructed to draft the proposals for strengthening material and resources of the State Service for the Protection of Security of the Healthy Society. The President gave instructions to develop specific measures to eradicate illicit drug crops on the territory of the country.

The Turkmen leader noted that citizens convicted of involvement in illicit drug trafficking deserved no pardon, and this provision should be incorporated in particular legal acts and the necessary amendments to the Criminal Code, which would increase criminal liability for such acts, should be adopted.

The Turkmen leader provided some specific comments and made some changes to the construction projects and instructed to hold the tender for design and construction of new facilities.
