President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, who arrived in our country on a two-day state visit, held the talks in Ashgabat.
The greeting ceremony took place in Oguzhan Hall of the palace complex. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited his counterpart to enter the hall of bilateral meetings, where they held the one-on-one talks.
The sides discussed the major fields and prospects of Turkmen-Afghan cooperation and exchanged views on a number of topical issues of regional and international politics.
The talks continued with the participation of the government delegations of the two countries in Sultan Sanjar Hall.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani to take part in the international conference, which will be held in Ashgabat in December in the framework of the celebrations in honour of the 20th anniversary of the status of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan.
The Turkmen leader focused with satisfaction on an increase in trade turnover between the two countries that exceeded US$1 billion last year.
The construction of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railroad is underway. The Turkmen leader noted that fruitful work on the implementation of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline was being done. The completion of construction of the power plants in Lebap and Mary Velayat will make it possible to increase electricity exports to Afghanistan up to 500 megawatts.
The Turkmen leader said that a maternity hospital in Turgundi in Herat Province and a children’s home in Sheberghan in Jowzjan Province would be built in the border provinces of Afghanistan in the near future. A mosque will be built in Akina in Andkhoy Etrap, Faryab Province. It is planned to open a Turkmenistan specialty shop in Mazar-i-Sharif in Balkh Province. It was noted that the Turkmen side intended to send a humanitarian cargo to neighbouring Afghanistan this week.

The Agreement on Cooperation between the National Olympic Committee of Turkmenistan and the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the power industry between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Institute of Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Programme of Cooperation for 2016 -2017 between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan were signed.

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani visited Turkmen State Institute of Economics and Management, where the ceremony of conferring the title of Honorary Professor of the Institute to the leader of Afghanistan took place.
