The ceremony of presenting state awards to railwaymen, who had taken an active part in the construction of the transnational railway Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran, took place with the participation of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at Ruhiyet Palace.
Addressing those present, the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that the construction of the North-South transnational railway was successfully completed in December last year. The longest section of the railway connecting the two parts of the continent runs through the territory of our country. The steel road 825 kilometres long and side lines were built by Turkmen railwaymen and financed without involving foreign companies. Turkmen railwaymen have done a tremendous amount of work on equipment of the new railway and construction of necessary facilities for 7 years.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the ambitious regional project linked the rail networks in Europe and Asia and created favourable conditions for all countries interested to access the Persian Gulf. This transnational railway is essential for building transport transit corridors and ensuring sustainable development and security in the region.
The decision to present state awards and confer honorary titles to the most distinguished railwaymen of our country for their active participation in the construction of the North-South transnational railway and their meritorious service to the Turkmen state and the people, honest and hard work, high performance results and professionalism was adopted.
Deputy Chairperson M. Yazmuhammedova read out the Decree on the presentation of state awards and honorary titles to railwaymen, who had taken an active part in the construction of Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway.
In a solemn ceremony, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov presented state awards to the best railwaymen. Honorary titles were conferred to a number of railwaymen.
With the sense of pride and undisguised excitement the distinguished workers took their well deserved awards from the hands of the President of Turkmenistan.
Taking the contribution of rail transport to enhancing the economic strength of the country into consideration, the President informed of the decision to establish the professional holiday of workers of rail transport sector and celebrate it each year on December 3. The Decree on the establishment of the Day of Railwaymen was signed to the applause of those present.
