President of Turkmenistan receives Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu.

The President of Turkmenistan and the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkey exchanged views on the prospects for further enhancing cooperation during the meeting.

Dwelling upon the progressive development of trading and economic partnership, the Turkmen leader mentioned a significant increase in trade turnover between the two countries as well as fruitful work of Turkish companies that actively contribute to the implementation of the ongoing ambitious national and regional projects in Turkmenistan as an illustrative example.

In his turn, the guest emphasized the strong willingness of Turkish business to strengthen its position in the promising Turkmen market that attracts an increasing number of potential investors and companies from around the world with every passing year and expressed sincere gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan for providing support in this regard.

The priority fields of Turkmen-Turkish cooperation include the humanitarian and cultural spheres. Emphasis was placed on the importance of enhancing and expanding traditional contacts in science, education, culture and tourism which would contribute to bringing the two peoples closer together. In recent years, bilateral scientific and educational and cultural contacts, exchange of experience in these important areas, the development of which the two countries pay close attention to, have received new incentives to develop.

This is vividly evidenced by the intergovernmental Agreement on cooperation in education between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Turkey signed last year, which marked a new stage of traditional partnership between the two countries in this sphere. The status of Mary as the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2015 is another vivid illustration of the fruitful interstate dialogue in the humanitarian sphere.

The upcoming trilateral meeting of foreign ministers of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey in Ashgabat was a focus of the talks. The meeting agenda will cover a wide range of issues, including interstate energy and transport cooperation. In this context, emphasis was placed on the importance of the demand-driven initiatives put forward by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to ensure global energy security and diversify regional and transcontinental transit transport infrastructure.

The guest emphasized that Turkey attached great importance to cooperation with Turkmenistan within the UN and other international organisations, and fully supported the constructive initiatives and proposals put forward by the Turkmen leader to strengthen peace, stability, security and sustainable development on a global scale.

In conclusion, the President of Turkmenistan and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey expressed belief that Turkmen-Turkish relations would continue to successfully develop for the benefit of the two friendly countries and peoples.
