President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, during which the work done in the economic sectors in January, important issues of the domestic policy and draft documents were considered.

The Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers presented the reports on social and economic development of the country in January 2015. It was reported that the key indicator of the national economy – GDP – made 110.3 per cent in 2014. The indicator of foreign trade turnover made 104.2 percent in 2014 as compared to 2013.

In January, GDP growth rate was 110.1 percent. Retail trade turnover increased by 12.5 per cent as compared to the same period in 2014. In accordance with the national development programme for the period till 2020, 195 social facilities, 951,300 square metres of living space and a number of infrastructure facilities and networks are currently under construction.

It was reported that 226 facilities were currently under construction at the request of the Ashgabat Hyakimlik in the capital city.

The report on seasonal agricultural activities – the winter crops campaign and the preparations for the cotton campaign – was presented.

As of January 30, 2015, the growth rate of oil and gas condensate production made 106.2 percent, natural and associated gas - 107.6 percent and ‘blue fuel’ exports - 111.1 percent. The volume of oil refining and production of a number of petroleum products, including motor gasoline, diesel fuel, polypropylene, fuel oil and liquefied gas, increased as compared to 2014. The volume of drilling operations rose by 35.9 per cent.

The information on the construction of health care and tourist facilities was presented. It was also noted that 6,370 tourists had visited the country this month.

Seven sports competitions and five massive sporting events were held in Turkmenistan during the reporting period. Turkmen athletes took part in five international tournaments, in which they won 11 – 2 gold, 2 silver and seven bronze - medals.

The information on the measures taken to modernize and build highways of national significance - Turkmenbashi-Farap and Ashgabat-Dashoguz and the highway bridge Turkmenabat-Farap was presented.

In January, 15 trades were held at the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan. The amount of foreign earnings amounted to US$ 3,058.400 US dollars; earnings growth rate was 136.7 percent.

Earnings growth rate at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry made 110 per cent and profits rose at the same ratio during the reporting period. The growth rate of foreign earnings was 125 percent.

In January, the growth rate of industrial production at enterprises of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs was 129 per cent and agricultural production - 138 per cent. The volume of construction and installation work done by entrepreneurs increased by 9 percent. The turnover growth rate was 161 per cent, the volume of services rendered to the population - 147 per cent.

The report on the preparations for the Turkmen-Croatian business forum, which will take place in Ashgabat on February 5, was presented.

Other issues were considered and the decisions were adopted during the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
