President of Turkmenistan receives Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Regional Development and EU Funds of the Republic of Croatia Branko Grcic, who arrived in Ashgabat leading the high-level delegation of his country to participate in a regular meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmenistan-Croatia Commission for economic cooperation and Turkmenistan-Croatia Business Forum.

The President of Turkmenistan and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia exchanged views on key aspects of Turkmen-Croatian trade and economic cooperation in the context of the existing opportunities to foster an effective dialogue in various fields. In this regard, a focus of discussion was the agendas of the regular meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission and Turkmenistan-Croatia Business Forum, taking place these days in the capital of Turkmenistan. It was noted that such regular business meetings offered incentives to develop forms of demand-driven partnership as well as joint projects that facilitated the practical implementation of bilateral agreements.

The promising areas of cooperation included the energy, transport, communications and construction sectors, a number of industries, including machine building and shipbuilding.

Focusing on the keen interest of Croatia’s business circles in Turkmenistan, where large-scale infrastructure projects are being implemented and favourable conditions for investment activities are created, the guest reaffirmed the willingness of Croatian companies to expand on the promising Turkmen market. In this regard, it was noted that the visit of the President of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Croatia, scheduled for this year, would certainly give a new impetus to build up Turkmen-Croatian partnership.

The Turkmen leader and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia also focused on humanitarian cooperation as an important aspect of bilateral relations, noting that there were ample opportunities to enhance fruitful contacts in science, education and culture as well as in sports and tourism.

Noting that this year marked the 20th anniversary of the status of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan, the Turkmen leader invited the Croatian partners to take part in the anniversary celebrations. In conclusion, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Regional Development and EU Funds of the Republic of Croatia Branko Grcic expressed belief that traditionally friendly Turkmen-Croatian cooperation would steadily develop and expand in the mutual interests and for the benefit of all.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Croatia in Turkmenistan Drazen Hrastic attended the meeting.
