Exchanging views on the prospects of bilateral cooperation in key areas, such as the trade and economic sector, the President of Turkmenistan and his guest focused on the positive role of the Intergovernmental Turkmenistan-Iran Commission for economic cooperation and regular exhibitions and business forums in promoting business contacts and increasing trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Iran.
The President of Turkmenistan and the Minister of Road and Urban Development of Iran confirmed the intention of the parties to continue to strengthen and build up effective cooperation on a long term basis given the modern realities and the opportunities for implementing new joint projects. In this regard, the guest noted that Iran attached great importance to the forthcoming visit of President Hassan Rouhani to Turkmenistan and the Ashgabat top-level talks, the agenda of which would cover a wide range of aspects of bilateral relations.
The major fields of partnership included the transport sector, where Turkmenistan had put forward a number of important initiatives to build regional and international transport and communications infrastructure. The transnational steel route North-South is an illustrative example of concerted efforts. In this context, the proposals of the Iranian side for cooperation in this key area were presented.
